We all get wrinkles, they are an inevitability of living a life well lived. But, if you are becoming increasingly dismayed by the lines you notice on your face, if you feel they make you look older, tired, or constantly angry, Botox® injections may be what you are looking for. With no down time, minimal discomfort, and a proven track record, these injections can give you the refreshing and rejuvenating look you desire.
Environmental factors and the aging process contribute to the formation of wrinkles, but the bottom line about wrinkles is that they are the result of the contraction of the muscles of the face. Our facial muscles allow us to express our emotions; we smile, we frown, we raise our eyebrows in surprise. After years of expressing emotions, however, wrinkles will become permanent structures on our face. We’ll notice an ‘11’ appear between our eyes from frowning and concentrating, creases form on our foreheads and ‘crow’s feet’ develop around our eyes from smiling.
Botox® works by relaxing the muscles of the face, thereby smoothing out the lines and creases. My goal is to allow you to be expressive minus the wrinkles. After a quick 15 – 30 minutes you will be back to your daily routine and will start to see the effects in a few days to one week, with these effects lasting 3 – 4 months.
Typical treatment requirements are as follows:
Prior to your appointment for Botox® or Juvederm® treatment, it is best to avoid anti-coagulant medications such as aspirin and NSAIDS (e.g. Motrin, Advil and Aleve) for at least 1 week. If any of these medications are prescribed by your physician DO NOT stop taking them. If, however, the medications are NOT prescribed by your physician you may stop taking them 1 week prior to your treatment. This is to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding. Certain supplements such as Vit E, Ginko Biloba and Omega-3, also have anti-coagulant properties and should be avoided as well so long as they are not prescribed by your physician.
